Come Mirror And Lend Me Your Ears

In the summer months, I go to local markets and sell the mini sculptures and canvas art I make in the form of jewelry. My favourite medium to work with is copper. Although I also use brass, steel and silver. The canvas earrings are also miniature abstract expression pieces. Not surprising, for those choosing painted canvas earrings, the decision is not less difficult than it is for deciding on a painting to buy.

All my earrings are for pierced ears. if you are a person who likes original earrings at affordable prices, as I do then my choice of earrings are fun to look at. Semi- precious stones and beads are more popular with earrings and so I offer a good choice using the metals mentioned.

I learn a lot from the process of making earrings. First of all, design and form is always at play the same as in any artwork. In the case of making earrings, the process involves repeating the design twice and getting it right. A number of people interested in making jewelry often ask about how to get started and where to get supplies. Just as an artist describes the process of art making, the result does not always mean selling the work, but it just might be an incentive for someone else’s creativity.

Meeting the public as they travel to their various vacation destinations allows me the opportunity to discuss the artwork I do and to explain my philosophy of creativity.  Which is to use all of my extra materials in the art making process for something both functional and artistic. Everything points back to my primary interest in making art.  Of course, I enjoy making the jewelry.

Get Stoned Without Drugs or Alcohol

The reason that people turn to drugs and alcohol in their life has the opposite effect of the original intention.  For those frustrated with direction their life is going and/or the wish to escape emotional pain, an addiction has the long-term repercussion of worsening things. This is because a variety of drugs and alcohol are a neurological depressant. The first sensation of feeling tipsy from alcohol or high from drugs tricks the body with a pleasant feeling that results in the craving for more. More and more attempts to recapture a short time of pleasure become the calling card of a destructive addiction.

If you are suffering from an addiction, I urge you to seek help to overcome it. Before addiction gets a chance to ruin your life look for a safe alternative. Here is something that really rocks for me. Quite simply collecting rocks and making jewelry designs with them. I use copper, brass and steel for the settings.

Semi-precious stones are more accessible and affordable than precious ones and have a natural energy. Many people carry semi-precious stones with them to enjoy a positive effect from their touch. I like the effect of these stones close to the heart. That is why I make pendants with stones I find and refine in a tumbler.

Did you know each birth sign of the Zodiac has a number of semi-precious stone associated with it?  . Depending on the region you live in, there are probably a few types of commonly found  semi- precious  stones. In fact, some of them might be in your own backyard or gravel driveway.

Believe it or not, that is the first place I found white quartz, pink quartz, and pyrite. There are also minerals found in vicinities of precious and semi-precious stones. There might be traces of copper, silver and gold. Knowledge of rocks helps.

Here is a list of some semi precious stones and what zodiac signs associate with them.

Garnet, Hematite, Amethyst, Black Onyx, Malachite, Labradorite, Peridot

Turquoise, Amber, Azurite, Amethyst, Moss Agate, Garnet, fluorite

Amethyst, Fine Agate, Garnet, Pink Tourmaline, Tigers Eye

Turquoise, Amethyst, Jade, Rock Crystal,  Bluelace Agate

 Agate, Green Obsidian,Jade, Rutilated Quartz

Rose Quartz, Moss Agate, Rhonodite, Malachite

Rhonondite, Pink Quartz, Agate

Onyx, Rock Crystal, Garnet, Fine Agate

Jade, Moss Agate, Jasper

Jade, Green Tourmaline, Bloodstone

Malachite, Agate, Green Tourmaline

Garnet, Malachite, Smokey Quartz

There is a lot of overlap of semi precious stones in the Zodiac. Depending on other aspects in a person’s astrology chart, the choice of stones to wear expands. For example, my sun sign is Capricorn, but the many aspects I have in Aquarius allows me to feel comfortable with semi precious stones for both Zodiac signs. (Aspects in Astrology refer to things such as how the planets react  in such things as relationships and work.)

Trust your instinct. If a rock has a good effect upon you, it is probably a good sign regardless of it fitting with your astrological sign. I am still discovering the different qualities of semi-precious stones. And although I offer no guarantee that stones have the same impact on everyone the same. It is worth trying to get stoned without drugs or alcohol!

A New Twist On Souvenir Spoons

Funk-tional Art

Collecting souvenir spoons from places visited belongs to a different era. My mother considered her spoon collection a treasure and that is what other collectors believed. But forty years later, spoon collections are showing up in thrift stores and yard sales.

Spoon collections tell a personal story of travel.  If collecting souvenir spoons no longer interests the traveler of today then making them into something else works. That something else is jewelry. Because buying jewelry is a favorite activity of many people. Especially unique and artistic.

There is a wide choice of jewelry from children’s to specialized available in many visitor and gallery shops.  Open markets are also popular places to search for unique souvenirs. That is where I display my creations. And this summer one of my themes is a new twist on souvenir spoons made into pendants. The spoons range in type of metals. My use of semi precious stones, glass and shells enhance the spoons new incarnation.

Every spoon is different because in the bending process some metals shape easier and sometimes when they break, there is still something interesting to use  A few become earrings. Still other parts of spoons make good charms for bracelets.
